If Only I'd Known, Part 2

I just switched computers--from a borrowed laptop (mine bit the dust a month or so ago)--to my desktop. Little did I suspect that the colors I saw on the laptop (both of them) were nowhere near the same as the ones I see on the desktop. If you've been here before, you must have thought I had little to no design sense using a yucky yellow on the left side. I didn't. That wasn't me. If only I'd known!

Unfortunately, this monitor, though good-sized, was cheap. It's therefore fairly dark, even at maximum brightness. What I'm seeing now in the left panel is a tannish/taupe color. It's as close to the color I'd thought I was using as I could find--either via typepad's choices or the websafe colors Photoshop presented. The only websafe color was a pale yellow. Nuh uh.

Please do me a favor and let me know what color you see in the left panel. Ah, technology, got to love it!

Death of a Laptop

My laptop is dying. The timing couldn't be worse. So what's new?

To say I'm discouraged is a gross understatement. Tears, white hot anger, and utter despair are competing for my attention. Trust me, you won't want to hear the litany of things gone wrong.

Doubt I'll be able to post for awhile--however long that turns out to be.

Wanted to let you know.

I'm Back!

Part of me hopes the hacker responsible for the week-long loss of my Internet service lands in jail with a bunch of very nasty men. Another part of me hopes he only has to stay there long enough to learn a well-needed lesson so he can turn his technical know-how to good rather than destruction.

Yesterday, my wireless ISP tech guy (who's also an owner of a small wireless company in a niche market) showed up--bless his heart--with a CD with Symantec virus patches and an update for Zone Alarm (firewall software which I had but had turned off since it was incompatible with my wireless service).

It took me about six hours to run all the virus programs and yep, I had one--the W32.Welchia.Worm. The symantec patch deleted it and I reinstalled the Zone Alarm update. This morning, my ISP got me back online but my connection is still on the flakey side. But at least I've got my Internet back and, knock on wood, should be protected against further attacks!

When you live alone, it's amazing how dependent you can become on the Internet. I use it for job searching, research, potential deal-making, and communication with friends, colleagues, potential employers, and, of course, Jon.

Speaking of Jon, he tells me that he now has a cell phone and will call. I'm still waiting. Hear that Jon, hint, hint!

It's so hard to have a relationship when your means of communicating is so limited. Arrrrgggg!
