The last time I wrote, I was feeling pretty low. Three violent deaths of friends within a month is a lot for anyone, much less someone in precarious circumstances. But God/the Universe does indeed work in mysterious ways!
About a month ago I started reading a book, I'm Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams, by a father/daughter team, Thomas and Penelope Pauley. I reached a point in which it said to put it down and continue when "the time was right." I wasn't sure that time was right but I needed something to read as a way to ease into a much-needed nap and picked it up again. And was it the right time or what!
It was as if God/the Universe was already starting to work on my behalf by nudging me to resume reading the book. Although I'd completed earlier exercises and had a blast doing them, I wasn't convinced I didn't have to continue efforting and struggling in order to make it. (I think Jon understands this and figured I'd have to come to my own realizations in my own time, right, Jon?) Boy, was I ever wrong!
Today I "talked" (in my own unique way) to my departed friends Dave and Natalie and asked them to help me so I could become strong and confident enough to accomplish good in the world--something I know they both wanted to do if circumstances had been different. In my mind's eye, I saw them both radiant and full of joy and peace. That was a far cry from the sense of horror I'd been holding in my mind and heart.
We can't change what happens in the world but we can change the way we choose to relate to it. I wrote a proverb a number of years ago but forgot my own advice.
"Wise is the man/woman who seeks not new vistas to behold but new eyes with which to view the familiar."
The premise of the book is that we need to let go and trust that God/the Universe will nurture, sustain, take care of us, and give us success beyond our wildest dreams. It's a hard notion to accept given the inner messages we all have about "how things work" and "who we are." Yet, in the deepest parts of my being, I know the book's premise is true.
If you're the pragmatic type, you're probably thinking, "hogwash," (or worse), that's not how it works at all. Oh, yeah? Are you where you want to be? Are you perfectly content with your life exactly the way it is, if so, then terrific. But I doubt that's true for very many of us.
I will add the caveat that if you're a bona fide atheist and don't believe that anything exists as a "higher power" outside yourself, then this book probably isn't for you.
After finishing the book, I realized that I already AM rich beyond my wildest dreams. All I have to do now is smile, be patient, and let God/the Universe do His/It's thing to more completely manifest that while I keep on keeping on and listening to my heart.
Do yourself a favor and go read this book, won't you? You'll be so glad you did!
